Celebrating TWO YEARS!
On 10 June our community store and post office will have been open for two years, so do pop in on the day and help us celebrate! We have worked out that in the last 12 months alone, we have clocked up 52,000 transactions, selling more than 6,660 bottles of milk; 15,230 newspapers; 745 pots of double cream; 1,065 pounds of butter; 1,350 sausage rolls; 1,000 packs of bacon; 2,070 dozen eggs; 6,225 loaves of bread; 4,200 cups of coffee and 2,400 slices of cake! Huge thanks to all our customers for keeping us so busy and to our wonderful management and volunteer teams for the hard work needed to keep the shop so full of things that are delicious and beautiful as well as those that are necessary and useful.
We were very saddened to learn of the recent death of Nevil Wilson, a member of the original group who sought to set up a community-run shop in the Candover Valley. Over the six years it took to make the store a reality, Nevil’s experience of business and law and his calm authority proved to be invaluable. As company secretary he oversaw the annual reporting of the CVCS accounts, managed the bank account throughout the build and issued, hand-written, every store share certificate. A true gentleman, Nevil will be sorely missed by all CVCS committee members who extend sincere condolences to Rhona and family.
Welcome to the team
Following our advertisement for a part-time senior assistant to help run the store and post office, it is a pleasure to announce that Louise Harris from Cliddesden has been appointed to the role. We look forward to working with her.
Father’s Day – Sunday 20 June
The store stocks a range of delicious Hampshire-produced food and drink that could make the perfect treat for a Dad. Choose from local beers, cider, sparkling wine, a bag of Moonroast coffee or special chocolates. There is also a selection of cheeses from our area, plus packs of Chalk Stream smoked trout. You are bound to find something he will love!
